How to deal with debt collectors

As the pandemic winds down, debt collectors are aggressively returning to court to try to garnish wages or freeze assets of those who owe them money. Many who lost their jobs during the past year of lockdowns and business closures are facing tough decisions about their future. Stimulus checks are coming in for some, and perhaps tax refunds and or unemployment payments, but eviction and mortgage deferments are expiring and stimulus checks are not exempt from debt collection efforts. If you find yourself in a financial jam, what are your options?

Call me. I will meet with you personally to assess your individual situation and lay out your choices. I have 30 years of experience in implementing successful debt reduction strategies and, if it is the right choice for you, help to guide you through the decision about whether bankruptcy would be the best option for you:

  • Chapter 7 allows individuals or couples to discharge certain debts, keep all or most of their property, and offers protection from creditor harassment.

  • Chapter 13 allows individuals or couples to stop legal action and restructure debts through a debt consolidation and repayment plan, even if you are seriously behind on payments.

We can get through this together and put you on the path to a fresh start with a bright future. Read more.
