File an extension?

If you filed an extension pushing your deadline to file by July 15 to Oct. 15, understand that extending the return did not extend the due date for paying 2019 taxes.

Without payment, the federal government will start charging interest on whatever shortfall you have at the current annual rate of 3 percent (this can change quarterly). You will also be charged a failure-to-pay penalty of 0.5 percent per month on the shortfall up to a total of 25 percent.

Further, while some back taxes can be discharged in Chapter 7 or Chapter 13, money owed from an unfiled tax return can never be discharged.
